The Royal typewriter was undoubtedly one of the best-selling machines in history. Like Remington and Underwood it has been a leading brand in the world market.
The Royal Typewriter Company was founded in January 1904 in a machine shop in Brooklyn, New York, by Edward B. Hess and Lewis C. Myers.
In March 1906, the first Royal No.1 machine was born.
The Royal Standard was different from the competition in that it had a "flatbed" design, ie a flat base, therefore much lower than a standard one.
